What we collect, and what we do not.

Who this covers

This statement covers Coastal Media Network and this website, coastalmedianetwork.com.au. It does not cover other websites we link to, or systems we build and operate for clients — those are covered by the agreement with that client.

We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles. Businesses of our size are generally outside the Privacy Act 1988, so this is a commitment we are choosing to make rather than one imposed on us.

What this website collects

The enquiry form is the only place this site collects personal information. When you submit it, we receive exactly the fields shown on the form:

• Your name
• Your organisation
• Your email address
• Your phone number, if you choose to give one
• What you tell us is slowing your business down
• Who uses the process you are describing
• Whether you would rather we email or call

What this website does not do

• No cookies are set by this site.
• No analytics, tag manager, advertising pixel or session recorder runs on it.
• Nothing is written to your browser storage.
• We do not build a profile of you, and we have nothing to sell to anybody.
• We do not use your enquiry to add you to a mailing list.

Fonts, and the one request that leaves our server

The site loads its typefaces from Google Fonts. That means your browser makes a request to fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com, and Google receives your IP address and general browser information as part of it, the same as any request to any server.

We mention it because it is the only third-party request the site makes, and a privacy statement that quietly omits it is not much of a statement. We are looking at self-hosting the fonts to remove it.

Why we hold it, and for how long

We use what you send us to answer your enquiry and to have a conversation about the work. That is the whole purpose.

If the enquiry becomes a project, the information becomes part of our normal business and accounting records, which we keep for as long as Australian tax and business law requires. If it does not become a project, we keep it while it is still useful for the conversation and delete it once it plainly is not.

Who else sees it

Your enquiry reaches us by email and is read by the people who would actually do the work. We do not sell, rent or trade personal information, and we do not disclose it to anyone overseas.

Like any business we use ordinary third-party services to operate — email and hosting among them — and those providers necessarily process the information in transit and at rest. We would also disclose information if the law required it.

Keeping it safe

The site is served over HTTPS, so anything you submit is encrypted in transit. Access to enquiry email is limited to people who need it.

We will not pretend to guarantee security. No system is perfect, and anyone claiming otherwise is overselling. What we can say is that we hold very little, which is the most reliable protection there is.

Seeing it, changing it, or having it deleted

Email hello@coastalmedianetwork.com.au and ask. You can ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. We will do it, and we will not make you explain why.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, tell us first and we will try to sort it out. If that does not resolve it, you can raise it with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.

Changes

If we add anything that changes what we collect — analytics being the obvious candidate — we will update this page and the date at the top of it before turning it on, not after.
